Tommy Evans Q&A

Apollo Cycling Team are hosting a talk and Q & A session with Tommy Evans in the Ashburn hotel Lurgan on Wednesday 23 April at 7pm – 9pm.

Tommy’s Palmares is an impressive one.  he has raced at the highest level on the road, track and TT.  Stage winner of the RAS and Irish international.  Upon retirement from racing Tommy then took up a post as Elite level coach with Cycling Ireland  and is currently Irish Triathons Elite cycling performance coach.

Tommy has been there and done pretty much most things in our sport.  don’t miss this unique oportunity to  pick the brains of one of Irish cyclings legends.

The event will be held in the upstairs bar of the Ashburn Hotel in Lurgan this Wednesday and we encourage you to consider a question for Tommy on anything o do with cycling, race tactics, diet, training, recovery etc.

Everybody is welcome, spread the word and see you Wednesday.

Successful Apollo CT Reliability Trial

Lurgan’s Apollo Cycling Club held the first reliability trial of the year starting at the Goodyear Social Club on Sunday. For the uninitiated a reliability trial is a pre-season cycling event typically, but not exclusively, for competitive cyclists. It is essentially a leisure run but is usually at a decent pace. It gives an opportunity to test the fitness levels, check out the new gear (if Santa came calling) and just work off a few of those extra pounds gained over the close season.

For the first trial of the year in Mid-January conditions were almost perfect and the event attracted ninety-five cyclists from various Ulster Cycling Clubs. The cyclists with motorcycle outriders were led out by a pace car for thirty miles, with the pace increasing for the return on the sixty-eight mile jaunt. With an average of over 21mph the leading bunch returned in around three hours.

Back at the Goodyear Apollo Cycling Club members had put on a spread for all the participants and energy levels were well replenished.

Well done to organiser Andy McGibbon and to everyone who contributed to the success of the trial. Goodyear Social Club is an ideal venue to host such an event, being just outside the town and having both parking and changing facilities. Thanks go to the committee and staff of Goodyear Social Club for their assistance to Apollo.

Apollo Cycling Club is based in Lurgan and their members include both leisure and competitive cyclists. There are club runs each Saturday and Sunday morning and details are on their website. New members are always welcome. Why not check them out on or on Facebook.

Wee Series MTB Races Conclusion – Updated

The Wee Series MTB races came to a close on a rather frosty and cold aftermoon @ the Craigavon Lakes. Running over 8 laps of the course, Matthew Adair [Banbridge] took the race victory (And overall) ahead of Fred McSorley [Apollo] & Cathal Hendron [Apollo]. Fred & Cathal had a good tussle the whole length of the race, with Fred proving the victor on the last few laps. Unfortunately the turn out wasn’t the best [Owing to the cold weather I’m sure] however all competitors enjoyed the racing and the chance to stretch their legs outside the normal racing season, and your support is welcome from the Apollo team.

The underage events were well supported as well, with plenty of much and fun had by all! Unfortunately I don’t have the results as yet but I’ll try and get them up in the next few days. A big thanks must go to Derek for setting out the course and running the events, along with the marshals and sign on people (Who know who you are :)). Also, thanks Dromara for the race report & pics!
